Many communities in Nigeria are affected by poverty, disease, lack of infrastructure,
illiteracy and the associated problems. Due to bad governance and corruption, there is
inequality in the distribution of wealth, and a huge gap between those living large in the
urban areas and those living in extreme poverty in rural communities. The aim of our
community outreach initiative is to address some of these issues i.e the provision of basic
human rights, such as food, shelter, education and health care.
Through this initiative Biire Foundation has provides different assistance to disadvantaged
communities in the area of education, empowerment, nutritional support and access to
health, and water. In addition, to promote entrepreneurship, the foundation has been
training women on skill acquisition and empowerment programs, including support to
youth development activities. Therefore, our community outreach program is an initiative
that provides opportunity for socio-economic development of disadvantage communities in
a bid to contribute to the overall wellbeing of the population.
We therefore appeal to our donors to make regular donations in support of extremely poor
and hard to reach communities. We have a structured and accountable mechanism that
ensures all donations are directed towards impacting the lives of vulnerable families i.e
women headed households, orphans, disadvantage populations.
With donations as little as N5000 a month, you can help keep a child in school, provide
food, education and access to quality health care etc.
Before the commencement of our outreach, Biire engages the targeted communities on the
challenges facing each communities. We discuss through various forms of participatory
approach and systematically conducting a needs assessment. Subcequently, we plan our
outreach events tailoring each event according to the needs of the benefitting community.
Major activities includes organising events that improve the health and well-being of the
community. We also run workshops educating locals on healthy nutrition, health, hygiene,
environmental awareness, sexual and reproductive health, education and other issues that
effect the community. We also carry out community empowerment workshops.
Biire purchases and distributes medical supplies, schoolbooks, stationary, clothing, furniture
and other provisions to communities, villages. We work with local organizations and other
NGOs to conduct medical outreach interventions such as Free HIV testing, Malaria, TB
testing, antenatal referrals, food and nutritional support as well as eye testing and
distribution of glasses and other vitals checkup.
Our staff and volunteers conduct monthly and quarterly outreach services with community
health workers to identify the following target population which includes: pregnant
women/nursing mothers, malnourished children, women headed household/widows,
elderly, disabled.
