Sexual Reproductive Health Rights

SEXUAL REPRODUTIVE HEALTH RIGHTS CHALLENGE

Out of Nigeria’s total population of about 148 million, nearly 50 million (one-third) is between the ages of 10 and 24. Nigeria’s development is compromised by the sexual reproductive health rights issues afflicting its youth.

Lack of sexual health information and services make young people vulnerable to sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and unplanned pregnancies. According to USAID, over 1.3 million unplanned pregnancies occur annually in Nigeria and over half (760,000) of these pregnancies result in abortions.

OUR APPROACH TO REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH RIGHTS

BIIRE has implemented projects focused on improving the health outcomes of youths by granting them access to life-saving contraceptives, in order to significantly reduce the high incidence of HIV/AIDS, unplanned pregnancies and unsafe abortions.

We are currently working on devising a mobile platform which will give adolescents and youths access to comprehensive reproductive health education, access to contraceptives and registered youth-friendly service providers.

BIIRE will use technology as a tool for facilitating integrated health systems strengthening and also to provide youths with timely, accurate, and important sexual reproductive health rights information and youth friendly  services

We look forward to partnering with funders and collaborators in screening and effectively linking serotype HIV positive individuals with service providers across Nigeria.

We want to create workplace HIV programmes for organizations with the addition of the tuberculosis component and cervical cancer screening for women.
