The Nigerian health care has severely depleted overtime. Despite Nigerian’s strategic position in Africa, the country is greatly underserved in regards to health care. Health facilities (health centers, personnel, and medical equipment) are inadequate in several parts of the country, especially in rural areas.

On the 19th of March 2013, the Japanese Government and BIIRE signed a Grant Contract for procurement of health equipment after the assessment of the primary health care facilities and a thorough tender process.  Subsequently, the Japanese Government provided the sum of $121,883 for the purchase and installation of life saving equipment.

Execution

The Nigerian health care has been in a state of comatose overtime. Despite Nigerian’s
strategic economic position in Africa, the country is greatly underserved in regards to health
care delivery due to decaying health facilities, overwhelmed and under paid medical
personnel, obsolete medical equipment, or none existent especially in rural areas. To
address this challenges, a collaborative effort is required from National and international
Governments, international agencies, local partners, staff/personnel as well as community
engagement.

To address this problem, on the 19th of March 2013, the Japanese Government and BIIRE
signed a Grant Contract for procurement of health equipment after a thorough needs
assessment of all the primary health care facilities in Lagos was conducted.
Subsequently, the Japanese Government provided the sum of $121,883 for the purchase
and installation of life saving equipment. This project provided the much needed medical
equipment to the PHCs listed below to enable them effectively meet and provide quality
medical care services to the communities. The equipment procured were : Fetal Heart
dopplers, portable oxygen units, baby weighing sales, nebulizing units, delivery beds,
weighing scales with standiometer, wheel chairs and delivery beds. The following local
